Could it be that FNB will be bringing Paypal to South Africa later on this year? Online retail has long groaned at the lack of a full Paypal service in South Africa. Rumours have recently surfaced on Twitter and the Popular online technology news site MyBroadband that thanks to FNB this may all change. FNB has failed to comment on this, either comfirming or dispelling the rumour.
Paypal has always been a much desired service that remains just out of reach for local online publishers and retailers. At the moment there is an array of local payment solutions, however none are as flexiable and cost effective as Paypal. The current online payment gateway model in South Sfrica requires hefty monthly fees with additional transaction fees, with Paypal there are only transaction fees, further more Paypal is in international system which has become a defacto payment option for the international online community, therefore this opens up convenient payment opportunities to alot more clients who use and trust Paypal abroad to pay for items or conduct online transactions on South African websites.
Paypal in South Africa will be a much welcomed service, and if this rumour is true it will most defiantly boost FNB’s customer base as it is a service that is leaving an empty hole in South Africa’s online retails landscape.
